5 Ways Hiring a Custom Wedding Invitation Designer Helps You

Brides! I know, I know. Weddings are already so expensive, but out of all the items that you’ve received quotes for and planned for, have you taken the time to think about the budget for your wedding invitations?

Wedding invitations are much more complicated than most brides think they will be, which is why it’s so important to plan in advance. You might be able to find a gorgeous wedding invitation on Etsy, Minted, PaperSource, etc., but have you taken the time to think about how much custom artwork could help boost your wedding invitation experience?

Wedding invitations are just as important as the rest of your wedding day, especially because they are helping to set the scene and mood for your guests. If you are having a destination wedding in the Bahamas do you really want to use a generic (and dare I say, cheesy) design that you find online? I definitely wouldn’t want to and I don’t want you to either!

That’s why I’ve taken so much time to build my custom calligraphy wedding invitation business: because I truly believe that one of the very few tangible items that touches each of your guests during your wedding planning experience deserves just as much attention and care as the rest of your big day. Below are three reasons why it’s worth your money to hire a custom wedding invitation designer & calligrapher for your big day.

1. A custom wedding invitation designer can help keep track of all the little details for you.

You may not realize how much work goes into wedding invitations. Not only do you need to find a design that you like (or, hopefully, have someone like me make something for you) but you also need to gather your entire guest list, address your envelopes, account for the costs of postage, think about assembling your suite, as well as tracking your RSVP responses and following up with guests that don’t answer you. And, if you only buy a design without printing attached to the package, then you have to worry about printing the invitations yourself! All of this can be incredible time consuming, which is why hiring someone like me can be such a helpful tool during the wedding invitation process.

Time and time again I’ve addressed wedding invitation envelopes for brides who decided to purchase their wedding invitations somewhere else (Etsy, Minted, etc.) in the effort to save a little bit of money… and every time those brides have told me they wish they hadn’t done that because the process was terrible and wasn’t worth it at all. In other words, they wish they had set aside MORE money for a better wedding invitation experience.

2. A custom wedding invitation designer will be able to beautifully address your invitations for you if they are a calligrapher.

Heyo! The beautiful thing about me (hi, I’m Elisabeth) is that I was a calligrapher long before I became an invitation designer as well. I do not use fonts on my wedding invitations or envelope addressing unless you want a beautiful and classic block font. All of the calligraphy elements for your wedding invitation suite are handwritten by me then digitally designed for your save the date & custom wedding invitation, as well as being individually handwritten / calligraphed onto every single one of your guest envelopes. Very rarely do I use any variable printing for my envelope addressing. However, I often print return addresses for my brides in an effort to keep the cost of their overall package down just a little bit! The great thing for any bride to know is that I can actually digitize a calligraphy version of your return address (with my calligraphy) to have it printed that way – I don’t have to print those with a font!

As a guest who is receiving your wedding invitations, I can’t even tell you how much of an impression it makes for them to have their name beautifully handwritten in calligraphy on an envelope. A lot of guests end up putting these on their fridge or keeping them forever! Calligraphy is a little bit of a lost art, which is why I pride myself so much on my calligraphy work for my custom wedding invitations.

3. Your custom wedding invitation designer will be in charge of your wedding invitation timeline!

I have so many brides that get completely overwhelmed when they think about the timeline for their custom wedding invitations. There are so many things that you need to be thinking about! When the invitations need to be printed by, when the guest list needs to be assembled by, when the invitations need to be mailed by, when the RSVPs need to be received by… and the list goes on and on. If you hire me, I take care of all of that for you! You won’t have to think about the timeline for your custom wedding invitations at any point because I will be there every step of the way to remind you when the next thing is coming up.

4. Your custom wedding invitation designer can advise you on etiquette if you need help.

There are so many spoken and unspoken rules when it comes to the etiquette that surrounds wedding invitations. When you work with a custom wedding invitation designer, you have the opportunity to add (or leave out) whatever you want on your wedding invitations! It's my job to advise you of the rules and then allow you to break them if you so choose. For example, it's traditionally custom for each adult over 18 inside a house to receive their own wedding invitation. If one of your parent's friends have 4 full-grown children over 18 still living with them (this is purely hypothetical) then you have to send FIVE wedding invitations to that house... that can get a little overwhelming and most brides opt out of that "rule" and instead send an invitation to the entire family. That's only one example out of hundreds that seem to exist for wedding invitations. Let me help you and give you an assistance with the etiquette so that you don't have to stress about it!

5. Your custom wedding invitation designer can make a one-of-a-kind invitation suite your guests have never seen anywhere else.

Ever wondered why people "always recycle" the wedding invitations they receive in the mail? Because most of them look exactly the same! If you care about your wedding invitations, then why not take the artwork for your invitation suite to the next level with beautiful custom illustrations of your venue, your pets, floral elements, and so much more! Guests are sure to be absolutely wowed by your wedding invitation suite if you think outside of the box and use a custom wedding invitation designer to bring your unique vision to life. Those kinds of the invitations will never be thrown away or recycled because they are simply too beautiful for people to part with! Trust me... I have heart stories of people with boxes of wedding invitations under their bed because they can't bear to part with them ;)
