While the wedding venue may certainly direct the style of stationery you choose and the design you select, you may also want to consider the current trends. Now, hear us out: there’s nothing wrong with classic invitations—who doesn't love swirling calligraphy?—but if you care about keeping your big day firmly rooted in the here and now, considering contemporary (and sometimes trendy) choices are an easy way to do just that! Weddings cause sticker shock, I totally get it. And the thing that makes weddings so tricky is the fact that many wedding vendors charge MORE for their items if they are for a wedding, as opposed to some other event people might be hosting. I am NOT a vendor that does that. I believe that my prices should be even across the board, regardless of the type of people or event I'm creating them for. But, with that said, my prices are still high and a lot of people will ask me, "Why are your wedding invitations so expensive?"
You’re getting married! The big day is rapidly arriving, the budget planned, and you have started looking for vendors to help bring the big day to reality. While this is a very exciting time in your life, it can also be the most stressful as you journey into an industry full of ever-changing etiquette and tradition. As your details come together, the wedding invitation is easily one of the most important elements.
I’ve collected some of the most frequently asked questions about wedding invitations that I see as a stationer and provided my honest to goodness answers in this blog post.Read More
DISCLAIMER: The opinions that follow are my own and were not endorsed by any organization. Styled shoots work great for some certain people and vendors, but I'm not necessarily one of them. I wrote this post because I thought it was important for me to share my experience and overall opinion about styled shoots; I did not write this post to discourage anyone else from participating in them. This post is also not directed at any specific third party. I do share experiences but I do not name any names. Please take into consideration that this post is written from the point of a calligrapher/stationer so my experience may be different than that of other vendors in the industry. Multiple wedding vendors have expressed how much they agree with many of the points I am about to share below…Read More
Ever been approached by someone who seems a little crazy or is submitting a request for work super last minute? Chances are that your competition might have received that request as well. Katie and I love talking strategy when it comes to handling rush orders, pricing our work, etc. We’ve been approached by planners for the same project multiple times (this often happens when planners or brides are price-searching and trying to find a good deal) and it’s so easy to call her and talk about it! We often share how we are pricing our work – that’s how open we are with one another. And if one of us gets the work and the other doesn’t then we celebrate each other. There are NO hard feelings.Read More
The wedding industry can be such a cutthroat place. Between the multitude of photographers, stationers, florists, planners, and other professions that exist within the industry, it seems like there is hardly room for friendships to blossom, and rather more space for people to butt heads. Thankfully, there are multiple co-working spaces and online communities/societies that have helped wedding creatives (and creatives in general) connect with one another in a positive way.
I am lucky and blessed that I have been able to cultivate strong friendships in this industry, not only with those who have different professions from me, but those who have the SAME as well. And that’s a huge deal!Read More
